My Challenge ,Go Green!
Well, Now that Earthday is over, how are we doing? Still buying Paraffin candles, because they’re cheaper, and you really don’t see the big deal? I’ve learned this past year, that many people are not aware of the differences in burning “Paraffin” in your home, and using “soy candles“. Check out my blogs from 1/30/08, and 1/26/08 ”. What about your cleaning products! There are so many “green” cleaners now, that it’s not so hard to Clean green.
Personally, I love a challenge,, so I am challenging you to a small task. Here it is. Let’s get rid of dangerous chemicals we don’t need, like Clorox, and other harsh cleaners. And please check yout labels, on the food that you eat, the cleaning products, and “ladies”, look at your cosmetics, and skin care. Do they have preservatives? If so, throw them away, and research until you find some without preservatives. Do you know why? It has been proven that breast cancer cells contain mostly PRESERVATIVES.
When you check back in, just drop me a note, as to anything else you can think of that we need to do, and what have you found that is eco-friendly and safe, to replace something that is not.
This could be a great meeting place for people to go and look up this information. Let’s keep this going, and see what we come up with.
Have fun!
Long Hot Summers
Summer–the time when great memories are made, of fun trips, and days filled with fun times with friends,
Or , the most boring time of the year!
My grandson is 14, going on 25, and his little sister is 11 going on 22. They will be at home, while Mom works, and will be fine, but sometimes need a refereee, or another day, maybe a loving grandmother.
They both like to be busy, doing something fun.
I’m so excited, because I get to drive from Raleigh, to their home, close to Charlotte, and keep them company occasionally, once a month, or more. Since the 14 year old will be travelling to Lithuania, later this year, with his church group, I will be working with them, making their own Soy candles to sell, to help pay for the trip.
Crafts and Fun for the Whole Family
If you have bored teenagers at home, it’s probably a common sight to see them strewn about the couch watching television. And if you’re sick of seeing them waste away the afternoon and hearing them complain that they don’t have anything to do, consider implementing a family craft hour. Each week, you can arrange a new project that the entire family can work on, and this will get everyone out of the house and doing something a little more productive.
And don’t forget to get everyone involved. Rotate who picks the weekly project so that everyone can do something that interests them. If you need an idea to get the project kicked off, have everyone try their hand at making a wind chime. Get some cheap metal tubing and twine, and bust out the power drill. The product might not be professional or even particularly pretty, but at least the whole family will have enjoyed the time together. And no one wasted their lives on the couch!

Don’t Need Romance to Get Romantic
It’s not hard to figure out that there aren’t many ways to make a shed romantic. I learned this after spending a few weeks in a shed-like cabin by my local lake while working at a national park. The cabin was dank, dark and dusty at best.
Too bad my boyfriend was coming to visit for a weekend! I finally found one small way to create some sort of ambience in the little cabin. I had a vanilla-scented votive candle and I lit it when he came over. I guess you don’t need romance to be romantic, though. Everything ended up working out just fine.
Earth Day!!
We’re always raving about the beauty and great scents of Soy Candles,. Now let’s show what we can do to honor “Earth Day”! It has been suggested, that we turn all lights out that day, and burn Soy Candles. Some other things would be to plant a shade tree, and turn off the A.C. Some other suggestions are hanging clothes out to dry,and fix a meal that requires no cooking. I think we all should do something outside, and stay away from the T.V., and computer.
What else can we do?
Let me know your ideas.
Flameless for your Peace of Mind
Flameless, or not! Fragrance still surrounds. There are some really great-looking candle Jar warmers and Tart Warmers out there. They range from classy to cute. According to where you want your fragrance, you can choose from a whole array, then choose the warmer for your room of choice. So, when you want a particular fragrance, and don’t want a flame, you buy a Soy Candle Jar Warmer , or Soy Tart Warmer, with a very cool burn point, and an all day aroma. Soy tarts are really fun, too, because you can buy a set of 5, or 10, for about $1.00 a tart, and change your fragrance more often. The Warmers are not too expensive, and can be used over and over.
Just plug it in, and enjoy. If you have young children, They are ideal, for preventing those little fingers from getting burnt.
The Sun and the Rain
The rainy season can be either settling for some, or gloomy for others. I tend to enjoy a certain amount, if it’s not too cold. March is uncertain, so i rely on my “Solar Sun” in my kitchen window.
She smiles, and “Chimingly’ reminds me that she will return. When it has been 3 days without sunshine, a lot of us get the blah’s. My solar chimes really talk to me, and are a welcome sweet sound, during the dreary days. My little Shi-poo always finds a spot near one to sleep. That is amazing. it shows how soothing they can be.
Sweet Smells of Home
I had been to see my Grandchildren. It was Sunday Afternoon, the 1st. day of March. when I started home, for a 2 1/2 hour drive. The weather was horrible, cold and raining. We were expecting snow that evening.
I think all of Charlotte were on the road, and left early, like me. WEll, it took 5 hours to finally enter my driveway. The longer I drove, and the worse the cold rain became, the more I thought about HOME, and getting warm and relaxing.
The first thing I did was to change into my warmest clothes, heated up some soup, and lit 3 of my favorite Soy candles. I had ‘Pina Colada Cruise” in one corner, ‘Clothesline Breeze” in another, and “Fresh Cut Grass next to me. AAAAh, sweet smells, getting warm, at last, and then I heard my beautiful ” Musical Wind Chimes ” serenading me outside.
My “Blue Moon” solar chime was silent, because all the lights were out in the kitchen.
