What is a Candle Warmer?
A candle warmer is an electric warmer that melts a candle to release its scent. The candle warmer shown is intended to be used with jar candles or candles in cups, not with taper candles or candles without containers large enough to accommodate all the melted wax. Some candle warmers have a built-in bowl in which the candle is placed.
The advantages of using candle warmers include the absence of open flame and the soot that often results from burning wax. The main disadvantage of a plate candle warmer is candle life. While the candle can still be burned (provided the wick is still exposed), the wax no longer contains any fragrances.
A Brief Look at Wind Chimes
Wind chimes are chimes constructed from suspended tubes, rods or other objects and are often made of metal or wood. Wind chimes are usually hung outside of a building or house and are intended to be played by the wind. Sound can be produced when the tubes or rods come in contact with a suspended central clapper, in the form of a ball or horizontal disk, or each other. Wind chimes may be used to observe changes in wind direction, depending on where they are hung.
Modern windchimes have their origins in Indian wind bells. By the second century CE, these wind bells were being hung on the corners of large pagodas with the purpose of scaring away birds and evil spirits. Later, wind bells were introduced to China and were also hung in temples, palaces and homes. Japanese glass wind bells known as Fûrin have been produced since the Edo period. Wind chimes are thought to be good luck in parts of Asia and are used in Feng Shui.
Long Hot Summers
Summer–the time when great memories are made, of fun trips, and days filled with fun times with friends,
Or , the most boring time of the year!
My grandson is 14, going on 25, and his little sister is 11 going on 22. They will be at home, while Mom works, and will be fine, but sometimes need a refereee, or another day, maybe a loving grandmother.
They both like to be busy, doing something fun.
I’m so excited, because I get to drive from Raleigh, to their home, close to Charlotte, and keep them company occasionally, once a month, or more. Since the 14 year old will be travelling to Lithuania, later this year, with his church group, I will be working with them, making their own Soy candles to sell, to help pay for the trip.
Crafts and Fun for the Whole Family
If you have bored teenagers at home, it’s probably a common sight to see them strewn about the couch watching television. And if you’re sick of seeing them waste away the afternoon and hearing them complain that they don’t have anything to do, consider implementing a family craft hour. Each week, you can arrange a new project that the entire family can work on, and this will get everyone out of the house and doing something a little more productive.
And don’t forget to get everyone involved. Rotate who picks the weekly project so that everyone can do something that interests them. If you need an idea to get the project kicked off, have everyone try their hand at making a wind chime. Get some cheap metal tubing and twine, and bust out the power drill. The product might not be professional or even particularly pretty, but at least the whole family will have enjoyed the time together. And no one wasted their lives on the couch!
