The Green Challenge Continues.
Let’s consider what else could be used for an indoor celebration. Use your good China that no one ever sees! I’ll bet you have some cloth napkins that you’ve never used also. I KNOW, BACK TO THE OLD DAYS, BEFORE POLLUTION, AND WASTE, and when people had irons. Someone has to start this, why not you? Be the inspiration for your community.
Have fun coming up with re-usable, and environmentally friendly decorations like “green leaves” from a bush outside, along with some of your special seasonal flowers, such as roses, or Hydrangeas. A really conversational, and attractive accesory are the new “Solar Chimes”, and “Solar Mobiles“, that not only are so fascinating as they turn and twist in light, but they’ll do the same with a breeze.
No electricity is needed. Think of the comments and stimulating conversations around this beautiful table about your little solar mobile, and about preserving the environment.
So, light the “Soy Candles”, turn some of the lights off, (leave a lamp or fan on for the mobile), and enjoy a wonderful evening.
Home Décor that Appeals to All Your Senses
The basic premise of art is that it appeals to our basic senses. Whether it’s our visual, auditory, or otherwise, art is supposed to stimulate our own creative imaginings as well as our physical sensations. With that in mind, when you’re decorating your house or outdoor areas, it’s best to utilize products that appeal to as many of those senses as possible. This will create the greatest appeal for you and anyone who visits your home.
One of these multi-sensory products is the solar windchime, or solarchimes. Not only will these fill your home with beautiful musical notes, but they are also appealing to watch. Once it hits dusk and beyond, they quiet down, unless are under a light, like the tabletop chimes. These devices will also appeal to your conscience and your sense of decency, as they utilize solar power to fuel the sound, aspect of the wind chimes, or the amazing movements of the mobiles, In this way, you have a product that is beautiful on several different fronts but one that is also environmentally friendly.
Go Green for Summer Events
We have a challenge going on. So far, I’m finding more information out there that amazes me. There is so much I never thought about. It’s getting interesting. Lets have a cook-out. How about invitations on re-cycled paper, and better yet, have a place for everyone to reply online, and save all that paper, and speaking of paper, we will be using plates, and dinnerware from the cupboard. Decorations, are easy with so much to work with, nowadays .Use Soy Candles, instead of those deadly paraffin ones. Decorate with re-usable materials, which, depending on the event and the theme, could be “Fresh Flowers”, from your yard, bamboo pieces, and more. If your going to be outside after dark, the solar lights will come on, and along with lighting from the candles, it will be a lovely affair. Don’t forget to recycle.
To be continued…
Tuning Your Wind Chimes
If you’ve recently purchased some wind chimes, there’s nothing more satisfying than listening to that beautiful sound of tinkling wood or the ringing notes of struck pipes. But what if all you hear when the wind blows is a dull clunk? Some people find, after time, that their wind chimes have become terribly out of tune. If this is something that occurred straight out of the box, consider returning the wind chimes for a replacement. But if you’ve had them for a while, there is actually a way to retune your chimes.
In many cases, all you have to do is alter where the strike hits the pipe. After all, windchimes work on a system of striking and vibration. The vibration from the pipe causes the subsequent note that you hear and enjoy. But if it is not struck in an ideal location, it won’t be able to ring to its greatest potential. In older wind chimes, this is usually the result of a slipped string. Simply test where it sounds best for the strike to hit the pipe and readjust the string accordingly. You can either do this by ear or with the aid of a tuner.
My Challenge ,Go Green!
Well, Now that Earthday is over, how are we doing? Still buying Paraffin candles, because they’re cheaper, and you really don’t see the big deal? I’ve learned this past year, that many people are not aware of the differences in burning “Paraffin” in your home, and using “soy candles“. Check out my blogs from 1/30/08, and 1/26/08 ”. What about your cleaning products! There are so many “green” cleaners now, that it’s not so hard to Clean green.
Personally, I love a challenge,, so I am challenging you to a small task. Here it is. Let’s get rid of dangerous chemicals we don’t need, like Clorox, and other harsh cleaners. And please check yout labels, on the food that you eat, the cleaning products, and “ladies”, look at your cosmetics, and skin care. Do they have preservatives? If so, throw them away, and research until you find some without preservatives. Do you know why? It has been proven that breast cancer cells contain mostly PRESERVATIVES.
When you check back in, just drop me a note, as to anything else you can think of that we need to do, and what have you found that is eco-friendly and safe, to replace something that is not.
This could be a great meeting place for people to go and look up this information. Let’s keep this going, and see what we come up with.
Have fun!
